SESSION DESCRIPTION
NCTM Effective Teaching Practices Professional Learning
The NCTM eight Effective Teaching Practices describe eight, research-informed practices that promote students’ mathematical learning. In this professional learning institute, teachers in grades K - 2 will engage in sessions that develop an understanding of the effective teaching practices while connecting content and practice. The sessions will take a deep dive with supporting productive struggle and facilitating meaningful mathematical discourse while highlighting the following:
- Laying the Foundation for Productive Struggle and Growth Mindset
- Establishing Goals and Implementing Tasks that Promote Reasoning and Problem Solving
- Posing Purposeful Questions
- Using Instructional Routines to Facilitate Discourse and Foster Student Identity & Community
